Making Connections with Yvette Halpin & Sherry Rounds

In this experiential workshop you will learn how cognitive brain functions- like the capacity to read, write, pay attention, self-regulate, be empathetic, follow instructions, etc, use the same brain neural connections as the sensory and motor neural circuits that have been established since infancy.

Yvette Halpin will illuminate what babies sense and how they move from belly, through birth, to 3 years of age and how this development is foundational for healthy cognitive functioning throughout childhood.

With over 20 years in the healing profession as a Massage and Craniosacral Therapist, Sherry Rounds has a depth of knowledge that informs her ability to gently guide the body towards it's natural state of health.

In this workshop, Sherry will offer an introduction to Craniosacral therapy care with infants and children, as well as briefly describe the of anatomy of birth and what occurs when there are interventions involved in the birthing process.

This workshop would be amazing for any parent interested in their own child's development or any wellness practitioner who works with young children.

Lunch will be provided, so please let us know of any dietary considerations.

Prenatal Yoga Workshop at Pranashanti

Practicing Prenatal Yoga can be a powerful tool to prepare for labor and motherhood. Research suggests that Prenatal Yoga has many benefits for pregnant women, such as:

  • Improved sleep
  • Reduced stress and anxiety
  • Increased strength, flexibility and endurance of muscles needed for childbirth
  • Decreased lower back pain, nausea, carpal tunnel syndrome, headaches and shortness of breath

In these sessions, we will use meditation and practice yoga postures to strengthen and relax your changing body. We will explore different breath and focus techniques that are supportive for birthing and learn how to modify postures before and after baby arrives. Each session ends with a well-deserved relaxation, and is appropriate for new and experienced Yoga students.

This is an opportunity to connect with your body, baby and other pregnant women. As well as, to prepare for the challenges of being a new parent

Cost:  $35.00 per person for the 2-hr workshop or sign up for 3 sessions for $90.00 per person.

The Birth Story Healing Workshop combines birth story medicine, yoga, guided meditation and creative activities to reflect on the participant`s initiation into parenthood.  This birth story healing workshop is a chance to perhaps begin to see how the difficult moments in pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period can have the power to inspire us to live and parent from a place of confidence and love.

Ahimsa Heels

Ahimsa Heels is a concept that has been evolving in my mind for the past decade.  A few months ago it was put into action with the creation of yoga skirts (over leggings!)- locally made principally from upcycled, natural fibers.  Most of the profits are donated to help facilitate change.  The intention is to connect more creators and sustainable products to help support more people, organisations, initiatives, etc.

AND the skirts will be featured in the upcoming Happy Hearts fundraising children`s fashion show for CHEO on April 16th!

Peer Based Support

Choice!

On April 16th, CHOICE! (informedchoice.ca) will be

featuring Trial of Labor-a documentary that looks into

access to a trial of labour in trying for a VBAC in the

United States.  There will be a preshow and a

community panel discussion following the film

viewing.

ICAN

The International Cesarean Awareness Network’s

(ICAN) mission is to improve maternal-child health by

preventing unnecessary cesareans through

education, providing support for cesarean recovery,

and promoting vaginal birth after a cesarean (VBAC).

Our chapter has been running for nearly 3 years and

I’m grateful to have experienced how this community

has evolved.  Our meetings are a non-judgemental

space where women who have birthed by

caesarean(s) are supported: in healing from their

birth, in preparing for a family centered caesarean or

working towards a VBAC.  We meet the 3rd

Wednesday of each month at the OIHC (1129 Carling

Ave), from 7:15pm.  Online, we have a closed a local

FB group and page.

Birth Trauma Ontario

The mission of BTO is to provide a supportive

environment for the sharing of stories, the processing

of wounds and the exchanging of ideas for recovery

so that each member can emerge into the fullness of

who they are meant to be.  BTO is intended for

parents who self identify with birth trauma.  This past

January the Ottawa Chapter of BTO was launched.

We meet the 4th Wednesday of each month at the

OIHC on Carling at Holland, starting at 7:15pm.

Online, there is a Facebook group and soon we will

have a local FB page.
