Thank you for your interest in these offerings! I am inspired how the wellness, prenatal and parenting communities work together to support one another in the Ottawa area. As some of you may know, I’ve been learning, living and teaching yoga (the practice of connecting) for 15 years! Sprinkle in homeschooling 3 monkeys under 9 and owner of a learning centre for 11 years and that pretty much sums it up! Having moved into our home just over a year ago, a home built 11 years ago on a property that my grandmother purchased in 1979, I feel the draw to share this special spot with others.
As a habit, I tend to survive our Canadian winters by immersing myself into courses. Last year it was 2 courses from Pamela England’s & Birthing from Within’s distance learning; and this year it’s been Amy’s Wright’s Holding Space for Pregnancy Loss, Michael Stone’s Embodying Ethics and Vows in Modern Life and Pamela England’s Advanced Birth Story Medicine courses. As a passionate DIY advocate I’ve found myself immersed in learning how to put a website together. I’m excited to say that I’ve finally booked the lovely Sara McConnell for some professional photos; so if you visit the website in the near future please bare with me during this labour of love that is still “in transition”....but I’m looking forward to the before and after comparisons!
Monthly Meditation Sittings
Each month, we will have a group monthly meditation sitting for all those interested in learning about how this daily mindfulness practice can bring more peace into your life. It is my hope to invite different teachers in to share their practice.
Prenatal Yoga Retreat
We hosted our first Mom & Babe Day Retreat last year and we continue to offer these great getaways for moms.
This Sunday (March 6th) will be our first Prenatal Yoga Retreat! Each retreat will have elements to nourish the mind, body & soul: yoga, nourishing food, a walk along the river, and a creative project. This past year I’ve been exploring Birthing From Within’s Birth Art Process and playing with needle felting, wet felting, and knitting-so I’m really looking forward to weaving these experiences into the retreats.
Making Connections with Yvette Halpin
On Sunday, April 17th Chelsea Retreats will host Yvette for an experiential workshop that will highlight how infant’s sensory and neural connections lay the foundation for cognitive brain functioning later in childhood. Whether you have a child, work with children, or support parents, this is a workshop that will inspire your own pathways of development!
Mizuko means “water child”, and is a Japanese term for a fetus, baby, or infant that has passed. Historically, a Mizuko Kuyo ceremony has roots in the Buddhist tradition and was used to make offerings to Jizo-the protector of children.
Our first Mizuko Kuyo will mark the spring solstice (March 20th) by making space to remember a little loved one that passed and honour our own grief in the healing process. When the weather improves, I’m hoping to incorporate a water ceremony for women who may have some unresolved feelings regarding the loss of a fetus during a miscarriage.
Upcoming workshops & retreats

Ahimsa Heels is a concept that has been evolving in my mind for the past decade. A few months ago it was put into action with the creation of yoga skirts (over leggings!)- locally made principally from upcycled, natural fibers. Most of the profits are donated to help facilitate change. The intention is to connect more creators and sustainable products to help support more people, organisations, initiatives, etc.
AND the skirts will be featured in the upcoming Happy Hearts fundraising children`s fashion show for CHEO!
Birth Story Healing
“Birth Story Medicine is an uplifting guided personal growth process that brings insight, resolution, and healing after a difficult or disappointing birth.” -Pamela England
The Birth Story Healing Workshop combines birth story medicine, yoga, guided meditation and creative activities to reflect on the participant`s initiation into parenthood. This birth story healing workshop is a chance to perhaps begin to see how the difficult moments in pregnancy, birth and the post partum period can have the power to inspire us to live and parent from a place of confidence and love.
*April 10th, Ottawa Birth & Wellness Centre 11am to 2pm.
*April 24th, 1pm to 4pm
***Free Birth Story Healing Phone Sessions throughout the month of March for mothers, partners & birth attendants
On April 16th, CHOICE! (informedchoice.ca) will be featuring Trial of Labor-a documentary that looks into access to a trial of labour in trying for a VBAC in the United States. There will be a preshow and a community panel discussion following the film viewing.
Peer Based Support Groups
The International Cesarean Awareness Network’s (ICAN) mission is to improve maternal-child health by preventing unnecessary cesareans through education, providing support for cesarean recovery, and promoting vaginal birth after a cesarean (VBAC).
Our chapter has been running for nearly 3 years and I’m grateful to have experienced how this community has evolved. Our meetings are a non-judgemental space where women who have birthed by caesarean(s) are supported: in healing from their birth, in preparing for a family centered caesarean or working towards a VBAC. We meet the 3rd Wednesday of each month at the OIHC (1129 Carling Ave), from 7:15pm. Online, we have a closed a local FB group and page.
Birth Trauma Ontario
The mission of BTO is to provide a supportive environment for the sharing of stories, the processing of wounds and the exchanging of ideas for recovery so that each member can emerge into the fullness of who they are meant to be. BTO is intended for parents who self identify with birth trauma. This past January the Ottawa Chapter of BTO was launched. We meet the 4th Wednesday of each month at the OIHC on Carling at Holland, starting at 7:15pm. Online, there is a Facebook group and soon we will have a local FB page.
Empty Arms Open Heart
EAOH is a group for parents who have experienced pregnancy and/or infant loss. The hope is to create a connected community where we can honour the life that was created, as well as support one another in the healing process. Gatherings are at the OIHC the 2nd Wednesday of every second month. Online we have a closed Facebook group.
